GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR EXAMS & CATEGORIES

  1. Qualification Exams, Final Round Exams and Best of the Best Global Round Exams will all be held online.
  2. In Qualification Round Exams, separate payment is required for each selected category and exam. (Coding category - 25 €, other categories - 20 €)
  3. Participants can take the Qualification Exams at any ​scheduled date and in any combination of categories.
  4. Exam dates and times should be checked prior to category selection and payment.
  5. No paid exam can be canceled or refunded.
  6. Students who are unable to take the exam for any reason will not be offered an alternative or make-up exam. There will be no refund for the missed exam.
  7. The following are the terms of the changing exam date and category based on the Codementum and Brilliant membership codes usage criteria:
    a. Exam date and category changes for unpaid applications can be made at any time.
    b. A student who has selected and paid for the Coding Category cannot change this category; however, the exam dates can be changed.
    c. A student who has selected and paid for the Math Category can only change it to the Science Category or change the exam dates.
    d. A student who has selected and paid for the Science Category can only change it to the Math Category or change the exam dates.
    e. A student who has selected and paid for the Art Category can change it to either Math or Science categories, or change the ART Category exam date. A student who switches to the Math or Science Categories will not be able to return to the ART Category. 
  8. It is mandatory to have a zoom connection and a camera turned on in the exams.
  9. Exam Languages for the Qualification and Final Round Exams: English, French, Russian, Azerbaijani, Turkish

A) Qualification Round Exams of the STEM Olympiad:

  1. The Olympiad is open to all students in the grades stated below:
    Coding Category > Grades 2-12
    Math Category > Grades 1-12
    Science Category >Grades 1-12
    Art Category > Grades 2-9
  2. There is no age restriction. Students must register according to their current grades, not the school year in which they are enrolled. Click below to view the comparison table of education year and grade level by country.

  3. Qualification exams will be held ONLINE.
  4. Zoom connection is required during the exam. The camera must be turned on and the student ID must be used as the display name.
  5. The qualification exams will be held on two different (optional) dates to ensure a high level of participation. Schools and students can select one or both dates that are most convenient for them to participate in the Olympiad.
  6. A student may take the exams once on his/her preferred date or twice on both days in each of the four categories. In other words a student may take the exam up to 8 times in all categories and on 2 different exam dates. (Each exam requires separate payment.)
  7. Students who receive 50 or more points will be eligible to compete in the Final Round.
  8. The Qualifications Exams are available in the following languages: English, French, Russian, Turkish and Azerbaijani.
  9. The participation fee for the Coding category is 25 €, while the participation fee for the Math, Science, and Art categories is 20 € per exam. The application cannot be canceled and there will be no refund after the payment is done. There is no fee for students who qualify for the Final Round or Best of the Best Global Round. (Final Round and BoB Global Rounds are free of charge).
  10. A student can compete in up to 2 categories in the Final Round (excluding the Coding Category). A student who qualifies for the Best of Best Global Round can continue in only 1 of these categories.
  11. Exam times will be announced later, based on the local time in each country. Qualification exams will be open for 15 hours on the specified exam dates. Students can take exams from the categories of their choice at any time during this period.
  12. Qualification Exam Dates: A student may take the exams once on his/her preferred date or twice on both days in each of the four categories.
    For Coding Category > 6 November 2022 or 29 January 2023
    For Math, Science and Art Categories > 4 December 2022 or 5 February 2023
  13. All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation in the Qualification Round Exams of the International STEM Olympiad.

B) Final Round Exams of the STEM Olympiad:

  1. Students who receive 50 or more points from Qualification Exams will be eligible to compete in the Final Round.
  2. The Final Round Exams of the International STEM Olympiad will also be held ONLINE.
  3. Participation in the Final Round Exams is free of charge.
  4. Zoom connection is required during the exam. The camera must be turned on and the student ID must be used as the display name. Students in the top 10% who cannot be identified by their camera image and ID will not be able to advance to the Best of the Best Global Round.
  5. Students may take the Final Exams in the same language in which they took the Qualification Round Exams. (English, French, Russian, Turkish, or Azerbaijani)
  6. All students who participate in the Final Round Exams of the İnternational STEM Olympiad will receive a certificate of participation.

    Final Exam Results, Evaluation, Distribution of Medals and Certificates
    a) The top 3 participants in each grade and category will be awarded a hard copy Gold Medal and a Certificate of Achievement, which will be mailed in September 2023.
    b) The top 10% of the participants in the Final Round will be awarded a Digital Gold Medal Certificate and will be eligible to take the Best of the Bests (BOB) Global Round Exams.
    c) Distribution Rates of Digital Medals and Digital Achievement Certificates for Each Grade and Category:
    - The top 10% of the participants will receive a Digital Gold Medal Certificate and a Digital Achievement Certificate.
    - The next 10-25% of the participants will receive a Digital Silver Medal Certificate and a Digital Achievement Certificate.
    - The next 25-50% of the participants will receive a Digital Bronze Medal Certificate and a Digital Achievement Certificate.
    - The next 50-80% of the participants will receive a Digital Honorable Medal Certificate and a Digital Achievement Certificate.
    - The last 80-100% of the participants will receive Digital Participation Certificates only.

C) Best of the Bests Global Round Exams of the STEM Olympiad

  1. The top 10% of the participants in the Final Round will be awarded a Digital Gold Medal Certificate and will be eligible to take the Best of the Bests (BOB) Global Round Exams.
  2. Students who advance to the Best of the Best Global Round must register for the exam. Students who do not register within the specified time cannot take the exam and cannot claim any rights, even if they qualify.
  3. Best of the Bests Global Round Exams are free of charge. No additional payment is required.
  4. Best of the Bests Global Round Exams will be held ONLINE.
  5. The Best of the Bests Global Round Exams are only available in English.
  6. Two zoom cameras connections are required during the exams. Both of the cameras must be turned on during the exam and student ID must be used as the display name. Technical requirements in this regard will be announced later.
  7. The ranking of the participant among the top 3 students who does not meet the requirement of having two cameras on during the exam and whose ID numbers cannot be identified will be transferred to the next student in the ranking.
  8. Exams will be held in limited-time sessions. Following the Final Round, the exam time will be determined by the distribution of the top 20 countries and their respective local times. Exams may be held in the morning, afternoon, or evening, depending on the country. Exam times for the BOB Global Round will be announced following the Finals Exams.
  9. The top-ranking students will be awarded the following hard copy medals and certificates (in the Math and Science categories only)
    > 1st Place - Best of the Bests Original GOLD Medal + Hard Copy Certificate
    > 2nd Place - Best of the Bests Original GOLD Medal + Hard Copy Certificate
    > 3rd Place - Best of the Bests Original GOLD Medal + Hard Copy Certificate
    > The rest of participants will receive Best of the Bests Digital PARTICIPATION Certificate.

Payment Conditions

  1. Each selected category or exam in the Qualification Round Exams requires a separate payment. Please refer to the table above for the participation fees in the Qualification Round Exams.
  2. Participation in the Final Round and Best of the Bests Round Exams is free of charge for qualified students.
  3. Paid exam(s) can not be canceled or refunded.
  4. Students who are unable to take the exam due to unforeseen circumstances will not be offered an alternative or make-up exam, and there will be no refund for the missed exam.
  5. It is not mandatory to take both Qualification Round Exams in the same category. By doing so, a student can increase his or her chances of qualifying for the Final Round while also gaining valuable experience.
  6. Payments are received by a global payment processing platform Stripe by a credit or debit card. Please make sure that the applicant's card information can not be seen or stored by STEM Olympiad under any circumstances.
  7. Duplicate Payments Issue:
    >> You may encounter a payment issue as a result of the internet, your bank or the actions you take on the payment screen. Should there be an issue;
         - First of all, please check whether the money has been withdrawn from your bank account (or credit card account). If not, retry the payment process.
         - If the payment has been withdrawn but does not appear on the panel, please contact us via the contact form: https://stemolympiad.org/contact/
         - If you pay for the same exam again in case the first payment does not show up on your screen, the second payment will be refunded after the transaction fee is deducted.
    >> If a teacher and a student each made a separate payment for two different accounts that were opened on behalf of the student:
         - The refund amount is 13 € for the Coding category and 15 € for the Science and Math categories.
         - This is due to Codementum or Brilliant membership.

  1. All participants of the Qualification Exams will receive a digital certificate of participation in PDF file format.

  2. Students who take the Final Exam but do not qualify for a certificate of achievement will receive a digital certificate of participation in PDF file format.

  3. Medal Distribution Based on the Final Exam Results

    > The top 3 participants in each grade and category will be awarded a hard copy Gold Medal and a Certificate of Achievement
    > The top 10% of the participants will receive:
        + Digital Gold Medal Certificate (except the top 3 students)
        + The right to compete in the Best of the Bests Round

    > The next 10-25% of the participants > Digital SILVER Medal Certificate
