All You Need for STEM Olympiad
Science is one of the fundamental areas of STEM and helps students understand the natural world through observation, experimentation, analysis and evidence-based reasoning. It develops curiosity, critical thinking, problem-solving skills and the ability to understand how different phenomena and systems work. Science connects knowledge from different fields and plays an important role in areas such as medicine, engineering, environmental science, technology, research and everyday life. Studying science helps students understand the world around them and develop the skills needed to explore questions, analyze information and find solutions. The Science Category of the International STEM Olympiad encourages students to apply their scientific knowledge and develop their analytical and problem-solving skills through challenging and age-appropriate questions. Exam Information • Grades: 1–12 • Number of Questions: 25 q. in the Qualification Round and 30 q. in the BOB Round • Exam Format: Online, multiple-choice • Qualification Exam Languages: English, French, Spanish, Russian, Azerbaijani and Turkish • Final Exam Languages: The same language selected for the Qualification Exam • BOB Exam Language: English only • Qualification Exam Fee: 20 € per exam • Students may take the Qualification Exam on either one or both dates. Each exam attempt requires a separate payment. • The questions are different on each date, but both exams have the same level of difficulty. Grade Eligibility
Exam Progression • Students who achieve at least 40 points in the Science Qualification Round advance to the Final Round. • Students in grades 3–11 who rank in the top 15% of the Science Final Round qualify for the Best of the Best (BOB) Round. • Students who qualify for the BOB Round in multiple categories may participate in only one category. • Students in grades 3–11 who achieve at least 60 points in the Qualification Round qualify for participation in the Grand Final, subject to the applicable Grand Final conditions.
