All You Need for STEM Olympiad (FAQ)
Dear Students and Teachers, We’re excited to share the updated guidelines for the Art-Ad Film category of the International STEM Olympiad. This competition invites students to create and submit creative advertisements, following the rules outlined below: Video Duration: The total length of the ad film should be no less than 40 seconds and no more than 1 minute. Video Dimensions: Videos must be in a vertical format with an aspect ratio of 9:16 (1080 x 1920 pixels). File Size: The uploaded film should not exceed 50 MB. Video Format: Videos must be submitted in MP4 format with H.264 encoding, which is the most compatible format for Instagram Reels. Ensure the video plays smoothly on mobile devices. Content Structure: - The first half of the film must consist of behind-the-scenes (BTS) footage, showcasing the process of making the ad. - The second half should feature the final advertisement. Editing and Effects: - Students are free to use any editing software and add effects, including text overlays and audio effects, as desired. - However, evaluation will focus on the creativity of the project and the filming technique, while the impact of effects on scoring will remain minimal. Language: - If the advertisement includes any text or voiceovers, they must be in English. This ensures clarity and accessibility for international evaluation. Copyright Compliance: - All visuals, music, and sound effects used in the film must comply with copyright regulations. - Please note, if the video violates copyright rules, platforms like Instagram may mute the sound automatically when shared as a Reel. To avoid this, students are encouraged to use royalty-free or open-source content. Scoring Criteria: - Creativity and originality of the concept. - Execution of the behind-the-scenes and final ad. - Technical aspects like framing, lighting, and storytelling. Delivery and Publishing of Videos: - Deadline for Video Submission: January 15, 2025 Submission Requirements: 1. Parental and Teacher Confirmation: - Students must download the Privacy Policy and GDPR-compliant consent form from the STEM panel.- These forms must be signed by their parents and teachers and re-uploaded to the STEM panel after signing. 2. Uploading Photos: - Each team member must upload:- One passport-sized photo.- One full-length photo to the STEM panel. 3. Uploading Videos: - Once the above steps are completed, students can upload their prepared video to the STEM panel. Video Review and Publishing: - Technical Review by STEM Admin:- All uploaded videos will be reviewed by the STEM team.- Videos will undergo checks for size, duration, and format compliance.- Technically acceptable videos will be published on the STEM Olympiad Instagram account. Likes Period: - Videos will remain on Instagram until 10 February 2025, and can receive likes until this date. Visual Structure and Team Composition: - The advertisement project must be prepared by a team of two students. - Refer to the attached graphic for a visual example of how to divide the BTS footage and the final advertisement.
Person – 1: - One of the students from the team or a third person (such as a teacher, friend, or parent) can act as Person-1.- Person-1 must record behind-the-scenes footage covering the shooting area.- The first half of the video must consist of raw footage captured by Person-1. No special effects other than background music should be applied to this footage.- The footage captured by Person 1 should show that Person 2’s movements and the advertisement flow are in sync. Person – 2: - Person-2 must only be a member of the team.- This person's recording will constitute the main part of the advertisement film.- Effects can be applied during this recording, which should be done using a phone. Person – 3: - One of the students from the team or a third person (such as a teacher, friend, or parent) can act as Person-1.- According to the concept of the advertisement film, a third person (or more actors) can appear in the film. As a result, one person from the team can appear either in the behind-the-scenes footage or in the advertisement film itself. (Person-1 or Person-3)
